Belly Dance can help you lose weight. A lot of movements start in the belly, you use your belly muscles intensively. Belly dance is a very controlled way of moving, you learn to relax and tense all muscles of your body. In belly dance there is no tradition of being slim. Having a very round feminine body is even a benefit because you gain more effect with some fast movements like the shimmy (very fast movement). The British National Health Service recommend dance as a good way of moving for people with too much weight.
